If you do anything other than resistance training during your pressed 30 minutes of total workout time, you’re sabotaging your fitness results. This is based on what exercise scientists have known to be true for a very long time. The harder you push your body or the more intense your workout, the longer you will be in a heightened metabolic state. EPOC (that’s excess post-exercise oxygen consumption) is a fancy way of saying that you’re going to be rewarded with post-pump benefits, as your body will be burning calories long after your 30-minute session. If you are short for time, choose exercises that are most challenging and require the most energy for you to perform. Not sure about you, but I am 100-per cent certain that hitting the squat rack requires a little more effort than the elliptical.
